Description

Huge old cork oak tree in Ribeira Grande valley, Monchique Portugal. June/July are the months for cutting the cork (suberin) layer from the tree bark on a 9-10 year cycle. This process is shown here. The trunk under the cork is a bright orange/brown colour in contrast to the grey/brown old cork layer.
