Being fed upon by a Black Vulture; found in a horse pasture
Family Kinosternidae - mud and musk turtles
We came across this guy just below the surface in shallow muddy water. That's what they like. He's out of place here in the grass for photographic purposes.
'Stinkpot' is an old common name, although to me they aren't as stinky as your average watersnake.
Turtles are reptiles of the order Chelonii or Testudines characterised by a special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs and acting as a shield.Turtle may refer to the chelonian order as a whole (American English) or to fresh-water and sea-dwelling chelonians (British English).
