Nombre Común: Mayupa

Nombre científico : Sternopygus Macrurus

Sternopygus Macrurus, posee
Piel con escamas, hocico corto, no tiene aletas caudal, adiposa, ni dorsal, tampoco filamento dorsal. La mandíbula superior es más larga que la inferior. La cola se prolonga después de la aleta anal, es larga y punteaguda. Con dientes villiformes en la mandíbula y el premaxilar (Dahl, 1971).Tiene la margen del ojo libre, mancha humeral y crecen hasta un metro de longitud. Poseen de 250 a 270 radios. Es una especie de amplia distribución en Colombia, en las cuencas del Magdalena Catatumbo, Atrato, Sinú (Galvis, et al., 1997).

The Gymnotiformes are a group of teleost bony fishes commonly known as the Neotropical or South American knifefishes. They have long bodies and swim using undulations of their elongated anal fin. Found exclusively in fresh water, these mostly nocturnal fishes are capable of producing electric fields for navigation, communication, and, in the case of the electric eel (Electrophorus electricus), attack and defense.
