As a kid I was fascinated by Nature Study, and read all of Jacques Cousteau's, David Attenborough's and Gerald Durrell's books to the detriment of the 3R's. Now retired I'm back to what I still think of as Nature Study, tho' there are fancier names and many more specialisations, of course. Because I do volunteer work for DoC and at Cape Kidnappers I have access to interesting people and places. My main interest is native orchids and fortunately for me Hawkes Bay has been under explored for them since Colenso's days. I'm happy to assist visitors with likely spots to visit locally.
